My magic comes at a cost, as you know, and I've racked up so much debt I can never be clear of it unless I find a way to change the rules.
Things were… complicated. It was very obvious to everyone that Rumple was not acting like a 'good' guy, and thus Belle and he had a complicated relationship, complicated even further by the fact that she was pregnant with their child. He took steps to try to protect her from the others, and that tended to make her even more angry at him. However, he thought he was doing the right things and she would later see that he wasn't wrong, and while he wasn't doing things that others would consider 'moral', who were they to judge what was moral and what was not, they would do that to those they considered villains, and everyone here weren't on his side it seemed. They came to him if they needed help and otherwise they hated him, and honestly, he preferred that. After all, he wasn't a good man and he would crush anyone who got in his way. Attachments to the 'good' and 'pure' 'heroes' would never do him any good.
Look at how great that turned out for Regina.
Tch. Either way, he planned to do things his own way, and if they happened to line up with the things he wanted to do, then he was happy. However, there were some things he would stop himself from doing because Belle would want it that way. He was particularly sensitive to her requests. He didn't want to make things worse. He was so far from her, and he wasn't sure how he could get her back. He would do whatever it took to protect their child, and to protect her, and to earn her back.
Even Dark Ones needed nourishment at times. And while the nostalgia of his dates with Belle was strong, he wanted to eat a nice hamburger. He sat down and he could almost hear her saying she liked hamburgers and tea. He could almost see her sitting in front of him as Lacey asking for some wine and him failing at wooing her.
'What brings you here, Dark One? I thought you didn't need to eat now that you're immortal again.'
Ah yes, Granny. She was the only one brave enough to serve him after Ruby left. "Hamburger and tea." He wasn't in the mood to deal with his usual snark. He needed to think of his next move and the one after that and the one after that.
